About the Band

The Golden Eagle Community Band of Mount Holly, NJ is the premier all-volunteer community band in South Jersey. We have an active membership of approximately 55 members, who vary in age between early twenties and mid-seventies. We offer amateur and semi-professional adult musicians in the Delaware Valley the opportunity to continue or revive their musical enjoyment following high school, college, or military bands. Membership in the band is open to all.

The band was formed in 1972 as a group of high school musicians and alumni to play in local parades. The band started playing concerts two years later, and 1975 marked the beginning of our Mount Holly Concert Series. The band has performed a mix of concerts and parades ever since.

The band presents familiar music that appeals to a wide variety of tastes. Styles have included: the Twenties, the '50s, Dixieland and Big Band, Rock, and Marches. We've played music by: John Williams, Whitney Houston, George Gershwin, John Philip Sousa, Henry Mancini, Queen, Gustav Holst, Michael Jackson, Leroy Anderson, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Richard Rodgers, and Tchaikovsky. We believe that we should play music with which the audience is familiar. To listen to the band playing "Stars and Stripes Forever," click the speaker below. (WAV file, 487K)

The band performs a variety of concerts and parades throughout the year. These include:

Mount Holly Concert Series - We perform a concert series at the Burlington County Institute of Technology auditorium on Woodlane Road in Westampton, NJ, consisting of four concert weekends (two nights each): our October concert includes mostly march music; our December concert presents music for the holiday season; our March concert is the sounds of TV, Broadway, and Hollywood; our May concert - our big production - can be almost anything (past titles include Sounds Like America and Sentimental Journey).
Parades - We perform in six to eight parades every year, including Memorial Day and Independence Day, in towns such as Delanco, Maple Shade, Mount Holly, Riverside, Riverton, Wildwood and Willingboro.

Summer Concerts - We perform a number of weeknight and weekend concerts for local towns during the summer. Typical sites include Burlington City, Burlington Township, Beach Haven, Moorestown, Haddonfield, Delran and Cape May.

The band has also traveled to make special performances:

The band is an independent, non-profit organization established in 1972. We have an annual budget of approximately $30,000.
