Community Service

In addition to our concerts and parades, the Golden Eagle Community Band benefits the community though two ongoing programs and other occasional projects.

Toys for Tots

The band helps out the U.S Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. We solicit donations from local businesses, operate toy collection boxes at local banks and businesses, and operate coin boxes to collect money for Toys for Tots in the area.

Additionally, the band makes a donation to Toys for Tots in memory of Al Bauman, a deceased band member. All money we collect goes directly to purchasing toys for the program; we bear all of our own administrative costs, and we even buy batteries for many of the toys.

Garrah Morgan Scholarship

The band established the Garrah Morgan Memorial Instrumental Music Scholarship in memory of Garrah Morgan, a devoted band member for 11 years who was slain during the summer of 1993. The first scholarship was given in 1995. The scholarship is awarded at our May concert to a local high school senior who best reflects Garrah's commitment to community and musical organization. Students are nominated by area band directors, and the winner is selected by a scholarship committee within the band. The scholarship was worth $1000 this past year. See Scholarship Awards for a list of previous recipients.

Benefit Concert for Burlington Township High School

The band organized and performed a concert in honor of Michael Lacey, the former music director at BTHS. The memorial concert, on June 11, 2003 at the Burlington Township Community Arts Center raised close to $1300 for the school's grand piano fund.
